Fear Not

I have always had lilies nearby wherever I've lived. They're some of my favorites. I have some exotic lilies that are gorgeous. We planted them ourselves several years ago. Then, we had a lot of rain and found that, on the opposite side of the house, we have what my mom always called volunteer or day lilies. Tall and leggy with orange blooms.

I found this chart last Fall and knew it had to come home with me. The verse is a reminder that we're not alone and someone is always looking out for us. It calls for overdyed linen and Anchor flosses.

We all know how photos are not always true when it comes to patterns. When I found this one I thought each of the flowers was a different color from deep orange to golden orange. When I looked at the color list, I realized it's just one color. Since part of what drew me to it was the gradation of color, I will probably choose flosses from my stash that will give that effect.

This is a pattern that makes me want to start it NOW! I'll have to see how long I can resist.

  1. I agree that one of the most appealing things about this chart is the range of color in the lilies. I'm so glad you're going to stitch them like that. I didn't know about day lilies until I moved to Indiana...people do kind of look down on them, maybe because they don't really take any work. I love them, though, just cheerfully going thru life brightening things up wherever they darn well choose!

    1. I've always loved them. Mom had a sweet story about them that made them special to me. We had a next door neighbor named Willy. When my brother was little he pointed towards next door and asked Mom, "Dey Willy's Mama? Dey Willy's?" She asked him what he thought was Willy's and he said, "No, Mama, Deywillies!" She finally figured out he was saying Daylilies, referring to the flowers between our house and Willy's. The story has always made me smile!

  2. Great choice and a floss toss is definitely in order.
